Netball fun

On Friday, Joy played netball for the first time at Hagley Park.

As she is a great basketball player, she quickly picked up the rules and did so well that she was awarded "player of the day".

Planting fun

Last week the members of Garden Club got busy planting new native plants down the driveway.

Learning about days of the week

Joy's art class

In art class we talked together.  We painted some flowers.   That was fun because I learned more English.

Scones

We made scones yesterday.  First we put the mixture in the bowl with some water.
Then we stirred the mixture.  It was sticky.
We cut the mixture into ten bits and put it in the oven.
We put jam on top and the scones were yummy!

Planting

Today I planted a flower with Haruki and Lawrence. I used gloves to keep my hands clean. I had to dig a hole with a trowel. Then I put the pansy in the hole. I pressed the dirt around the plant. Haruki dug a big hole. Lawrence found a worm and he was excited.

How to sort rubbish

The Primary School have been learning about rubbish and recycling.
Here are some explanations that some Year 1 students have written.

How to sort rubbish
by Rasita

I want to explain how to sort rubbish at school.

The green bin is for organics.  Organics are fruit that turn into compost.

Rubbish goes in the red bin.  Rubbish goes in the red bin only.

The yellow bin is for recycling.  Recycling means you can use it again.

Now you can sort your rubbish at school.

I want to explain how to sort your rubbish at school.

The green bin is for organics and you put food scraps in like banana skins and oranges and apple cores.

The red bin is for rubbish and you can't reuse it again.

The yellow bin is for recycling and you can put some paper and cardboard and newspaper in it.

Now you can see how to sort your rubbish at school.

I want to explain how to sort rubbish at school.

Organics go in the green bin.  Organics are food scraps like banana skins or apple cores.  The truck will collect the organics.

Rubbish goes in the red bin.  So this rubbish will not be recycled.

Recycling is what you reuse and it goes in the yellow bin.  What goes in there is paper and cardboard.

Now you can see how to sort rubbish at school.

New saying of the month

See if you know what this saying means and post your comments below . . .
As you make your bed, so you must lie on it

A reminder that our International Parents Meeting will be at 2.15pm on Tuesday 17th in the staffroom next week.
All welcome :)

Learning about rubbish and recycling

We have been learning about rubbish and recycling.  We took photos of the three different types of rubbish bins.  Then we recorded our explanations about each bin and what it is used for on the Ipad.  We enjoyed hearing our voices and watching our movie.
